Hopelink - Travel Training Programs

HopeLink.org

Hopelink staff and volunteers provide on-the-bus transit orientation and training to groups in King County through the Mobilize! Public Transit Orientation Program. Volunteers are also able to counsel travelers with transportation questions and trip planning at various community centers, senior centers, and events across King County. King County Metro - Transit Instruction

The goal of the Transit Instruction program is to facilitate the independence of Individuals with Disabilities and/or Senior Citizens by teaching them the skills required to utilize public transportation. People with any qualifying disability older than 14, and Seniors older than 65 are able to apply for this service.

Lighthouse for the Blind

Orientation and Mobility training includes bus travel, route planning, assistive technology assessment, safety techniques for low-vision travelers, relocation and route planning for new community members, and supplemental training for guide-dog users.

  • Training Provided: Training for community members who are blind, low vision, or Deaf-Blind and are referred by Metro Transit.

Community Transit - Transit Instruction Program

Community Transit 's free transit instruction program is designed to provide the necessary assistance for each person to successfully learn how to use Community Transit's regular route bus system. The program is available to seniors, persons with disabilities, and non-English speaking customers. Trainings are customized to the customer's individual needs. Group presentations and trainings are available for senior centers, schools, residential facilities and other organizations.

Pierce Transit's Travel Training

Travel Training is a personal service geared toward your needs. It is free and available to seniors and those with disabilities seeking independence by using transit. After working with your personal Trainer, you will feel confident and comfortable riding the bus. You will learn everything you want to know to make bus riding simple such as how to:

  • Plan your trip to specific destinations using the easiest and safest route
  • Read and understand route maps and schedules
  • Recognize bus numbers, stops, and landmarks
  • Travel to and from bus stops
  • Board the bus with a mobility device
  • Pay fares and purchase passes
  • Locate and transfer to other buses
  • Know where and how to safely cross the street
  • Travel independently and confidently by bus
  • Use stop request cards
